Superchunk – Majesty Shredding

  • October 1, 2010

Majesty Shredding, Superchunk’s first album in nine years, does not disappoint. The North Carolina quartet has come back with 11 high-energy, infectious and satisfying tracks that showcase all the reasons why this band is so great. Great guitar riffs, kick-ass drumming, and frontman Mac McCaughan’s still-youthful vocals (and whoa-oh-ohs) combine to make noisy pop-rock that is a welcome addition to this year’s releases. Majesty Shredding kicks right off into “Digging For Something,” full of stadium-worthy guitars and a chorus of “oh oh ohs,” and never really turns back. Over the past decade, this band has developed their label, Merge, into an indie powerhouse with bands like Arcade Fire and Spoon. It’s great to hear that in that time, they haven’t gone soft. – Written by DBosket
