Ted Pitney – The Genesee EP

  • October 9, 2010

Ted Pitney, co-founder and songwriter of the bluegrassy collective King Wilkie, released his solo debut The Genesee EP which was recorded in Virginia with his band The Roosevelts. Genesee, is more stripped down than a King Wilkie record, opens with “Thirteen Falls” a song that draws the listener in with Pitney’s pensive yet slightly weathered vocals. The catchy pop melodies and harmonies of “What Will Love Recognize” are neatly arranged alongside driving guitars, while “October Fire” has a folky feel and “In & Out of Place” is another Americana pop gem. “Power Lines”, the last track on this twenty minute EP, is a little more rocking (think The Jayhawks), rounding out an impressive collection of imagery rich songs from a emerging talent. – Written by JFelton
