Them Coulee Boys – Die Happy

  • February 11, 2020

The Eau Claire, Wisconsin based band Them Coulee Boys follows-up their 2016 release, Dancing in the Dim Light, with Die Happy – another well-crafted Americana album that blends elements of punk, bluegrass and rock. The band’s first album, I Never Lied About Being in Love, included everything they had written before to officially forming as a group; their second was composed primarily from the leftovers of the first album. Die Happy is the Them Coulee Boys’ first new material in more than five years and continues their mix of punk, bluegrass and rock. The latest set was produced by Dave Simonett (Trampled by Turtles) at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN, the noted birthplace of releases by Nirvana, Son Volt, and PJ Harvey. Standout tracks include: the contemplative opener “Pray You Don’t Get Lonely”; the open-hearted “Me & My Anxiety”; the toe-tapper “10 ft. Tall”; the tender “I Won’t Be Defined”; the catchy “Midnight Manifestos”; the love song “5’6” Monument”; the introspective ballad “Find Your Muse”; and the epic collection of songs “Hand of God, Pts. 1, 2 & 3.” Them Coulee Boys’ Die Happy showcases what a great band they are and will help them breakthrough to wider audiences. – Written by JFelton
