Billy Strings – Home

  • February 11, 2020

The 26-year-old Lansing, Michigan native singer/songwriter, guitarist, and bluegrass musician Billy Strings follows-up 2017’s debut Turmoil and Tinfoil with his sophomore release, Home. Strings’ first release for Rounder Records is more sophisticated and polished than his first effort but no less bold. Combining bluegrass and electric experimentation, the collection is a cosmic Bluegrass gem. Standout tracks include: the opener and first single “Taking Water”; the unique twist on the road song, “Highway Hypnosis”; the barn burner “Everything’s The Same”; the traditional bluegrass-inspired “Must Be Seven”; the up-beat hypnotic track “Long Forgotten Dream”; the blazing “Hollow Heart”; the ballad “Running”; the simply beautiful “Watch It Fall”; the epic “Away From The Mire”; and the title track and album centerpiece “Home.” On this album, Billy Strings strikes a thoughtful balance between traditional bluegrass and sunny psychedelic ramblings. If you are a Bluegrass fan this album is a must! – Written by JFelton
