Tim Kasher – The Game of Monogamy

  • November 10, 2010

Comprising a semi-satirical look at monogamy and adulthood, Cursive and The Good Life frontman Tim Kasher’s solo release is a personal, pop-tinged look at the subject matter. Kasher uses each song to emote about matters such as love, ex-girlfriends, being a grown-up and marriage, often backed by horns, strings and a jaunty beat. For the most part, it works, but The Game of Monogamy is probably more successful with those familiar with Kasher’s unrefined (aka, a tad bit whiny) voice. However, “No Fireworks” is a great power ballad that benefits from the grandiose string arrangements and sees Kasher working overtime as he sings about a relationship gone stale. Definitely meant for jaded cynics, Monogamy is a good listen for when you need a reminder that you’re not alone in your wallowing. – Written by DBosket
