Twilight Hotel – When the Wolves Go Blind

  • December 25, 2010

Canadian duo Twilight Hotel, play eclectic country-folk inspired by the New Mexico/Arizona desert on their third and newest album, When the Wolves Go Blind. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer John Whynot (Lucinda Williams, Blue Rodeo) and Tom Waits’ drummer, Stephen Hodges, When the Wolves Go Blind is a great album for a quiet night in. Brandy Zdan and Dave Quanbury have played together for some 8 years, but they sound as if they’ve been playing for twice that time. The comfort and ease in their harmonies and compositions make songs like “What Do I Know About Love?” and “Mahogany Veneer” sound effortless. Some tracks have an almost adult-contempo feel (“When I’m Gone,” “Frozen Town”), while others are more straight country-folk (“Mahogany Veneer”). Twilight Hotel is not super flashy or trendy. Instead, they show that slow and steady music, composed and performed with soul, can go a long way. – Written by DBosket
