Wild Nothing – Gemini

  • December 25, 2010

Melancholy lyrics, shoegaze ambiance, and synth-heavy songs run throughout Gemini, the debut full length from Wild Nothing. Essentially a one-man show run by Jack Tatum (formerly of Facepaint), Wild Nothing succeeds at crafting music heavily inspired by ‘80s acts like the Cure, Jesus and Mary Chain, and the Cocteau Twins. Like so many indie bands right now, this type of moody retro pop is the style du jour, but Tatum’s music glides through these sounds effortlessly, both sounding believably true to the spirit of these older groups and sounding modern and fresh. As someone old enough to remember the ‘80s, listening to Gemini is almost nostalgic. But to the younger crowd, it is a solid representation of the past and present happily existing together. – Written by DBosket
