Warpaint shows that girl groups can do much more than be cute and play upbeat garage pop. Composed of longtime friends Theresa Wayman and Emily Kokal, along with Jenny Lee Lindberg and Stella Mozgawa, this LA-based band relishes in playing dreamy, after-hours music that is rebellious, smart and sexy – and who doesn’t like that? Wayman and Kokal’s hushed harmonies are deceptively calm, floating over a solid base of drums, guitars and bass in their first single “Undertow,” which is a good starting point for The Fool as it’s one of the more subdued songs on this debut full-length.
