Pittsburgh’s Wise Blood, aka Christopher Laufman, deftly slices and dices samples, beats and vocals on his latest release, simply titled +. In a similar fashion to groups like Avalanches and Girl Talk, Wise Blood mashes up familiar (and some unfamiliar) sounds and creates something that is fresh and sometimes so crazy that it actually works. “Here Comes the Sun” uses a snippet of the Beatles’ “Hello Goodbye” and whips it into a frenzy, but next track “B.I.G. E.G.O.” is a more satisfying blend of beats, looping samples, and an occasional dog bark that I am fairly certain matches my iPhone ringtone. Each song on this release is short and sweet, which ensures no single idea gets tired, but their brevity makes me wish there were more. Well played, Wise Blood. Well played. – Written by DBosket
