The Soft Moon – The Soft Moon

  • April 22, 2011

The Soft Moon, aka Luis Vasquez, clearly relishes the night as his self-titled debut is loaded with dark and foreboding tones, heavy industrial beats, and an overall sense of intense…intensity! Hailing from San Francisco, Vasquez plays synth-heavy electro pop with plenty of driving rhythms and chilly effects. The Soft Moon starts off with “Breathe The Fire,” a Joy Division-esque track that has Vasquez’s hushed vocals laid over aggressive guitars. “Out of Time” begins with an eerie, piercing synth wail that is surprisingly enjoyable despite its resemblance to a Halloween scary sounds CD. The album switches gears and goes right into the mellow “When It’s Over,” which once again has Vasquez’s hazy vocals accompanied by sultry guitar, making it one of the more accessible tracks. It’s intense music, brimming with dark energy. Is this music to play on a bright, sunny morning? Not really. But put this on late at night, and you’ll feel downright indestructible. – Written by DBosket
