Librarians – Present Passed

  • June 15, 2010

Librarians’ follow-up their 07 debut, Alright Easy Candy Stranger with Present Passed, which sees the West Virginia band take a step away from their dance punk debut and head into New Wave territory. “Candy Season” bears a resemblance to Panda Bear’s “Take Pills” with its sing-song, upbeat melody while down-tempo “Cranberry Palace” has hints of Grizzly Bear with its creeping bass line and Trey Curtis’ vocals and “Hard to Unwind” has a charming organ loop that drives the song’s first half before an atmospheric break. While not everything is as catchy or melodic as the aforementioned songs, Present Passed has plenty of danceable tracks to make this album a solid sophomore release. – Written by DBosket
