Luke Temple’s second release under the moniker Here We Go Magic is poppy, spacey, dreamy, and to be completely honest – a lot of fun. Pigeons doesn’t exactly have a coherent sound as a whole album; tracks range from the indie ballad “Bottom Feeder” and “Casual,” which has hints of Talkie Walkie-era Air, to the frenetic “Collector” that sounds like Broken Social Scene on speed. The hodgepodge of songs is perhaps its main drawback – electro-dance tracks mingle with sleepy, atmospheric tunes, making Pigeons a real find for people who like to play their iPods on shuffle and an annoyance for anyone who doesn’t. What Pigeons lacks in consistency is outweighed by the strength of the individual songs. Perhaps in the future, HWGM will focus on one particular sound, but in the meantime, don’t forget that variety is the spice of life. – Written by DBosket
