The Corin Tucker Band – 1,000 Years

  • October 27, 2010

Corin Tucker, known for being one-third of Sleater-Kinney, has returned four years after the band’s 2006 breakup/indefinite hiatus with her first solo release, 1,000 Years. Those hoping for more riotous Sleater-Kinney tunes may be disappointed, but that should only last a day or two, and then it’ll blow over. True, these new songs are more mellow, subdued, and have touches of folk and country here and there, but there are also some pretty rockin’ songs as well. Basically, it’s got a little of everything (even some strings). It’s also nice to hear Tucker break away from her characteristic vibrato vocals now and again to show more depth and range. With help from multi-instrumentalist Seth Lorinczi (Golden Bears) and drummer Sara Lund (Unwound), 1,000 Years is an album that should make the Pacific Northwest proud. – Written by DBosket
