Danielson – Best of Gloucester County

  • April 30, 2011

Daniel Smith, known as the leader of the Danielson Famile and for dressing up as a giant tree on stage, has been producing his own eccentric style of folk-pop music since the ‘90s. Best of Gloucester County is his first Danielson release in five years since 2006’s Ships. Danielson’s music sounds like a group of eccentrics and free spirits playing happy tunes in a jamboree. Songs have steady blasts of drums peppered with horns, bells and banjo (courtesy of pal, Sufjan Stevens) that all support Smith and his small chorus of singers. Think the Polyphonic Spree, but way wackier. Jens Lekman, no stranger to quirky music but someone whose songs sound more refined, provides vocals on “Lil Norge.” BOGC for the most part is light and fun, and as we’re approaching summer, perhaps this is exactly what we need. – Written by DBosket
