How to Dress Well – Love Remains

  • December 14, 2010

Tom Krell – a.k.a. How to Dress Well – is not your average American working abroad. As a German based research fellow translating post-Kantian philosophy, Krell calls upon critical thinking and sophisticated linguistic skills. However, as a high pitched falsetto experimenting with ultra-distorted lo-fi R&B along the lines of Keith Sweat and Jodeci, Krell uses a keen ear for detail and layers upon layers of multi-instrumentation, beats, and ambient noise. His first full-length album Love Remains takes the seductive sounds of the early 90’s and turns them on their head; emphasizing ambient noise like the hiss, pop, and fuzz of a long lost cassette tape over setting a romantic mood, over the lyrics and even over the vocals, which convey a distant quality. Check out How to Dress Well’s genre-defying collection of tracks for something new. – Written by JFelton
