Jay Crocker – Co-Stars

  • April 18, 2011

Calgary artist Jay Crocker, also known as a producer and player in three other bands, has released his latest solo effort, Co-Stars. Among Crocker’s interests are improvisational music projects, which make sense after listening to Co-Stars. The album starts off with “Super Disease,” a catchy, My Morning Jacket-esque up-tempo rock track and then switches gears completely with “Della Be Della,” a quirky lullaby with plinky music box effects. Amidst all the noise, Crocker’s music sounds like it comes from the heart. The problem is that it is sometimes hard to connect to. “Amphibian Sounds” veers off into a long, discordant jam that isn’t quite as successful as his more straightforward songs that keep the effects to a minimum. – Written by DBosket
