In its current incarnation, The Mountain Goats are John Darnielle, Peter Hughes, and Jon Wurster and their latest release, All Eternals Deck is a great album. Grounded by Darnielle’s literate songwriting (he’s been lauded in The New Yorker as America’s best non-hip hop lyricist and as one of the 100 Best Living Songwriters by Paste magazine), The Mountain Goats continue to mine stories of the doomed for glimpses of bliss as they stare down fate. Contributing to this dark edged sensibility is the presence of producer Erik Rutan (one of a number of producers), a former guitarist for death metal band Morbid Angel.
